Why do you love reading?
I love the way a book can take you to a different place without having to ever leave your seat, or view and understand the world through the lens of another person. A book can literally change your life.
What book or series got you into reading?
Enid Blyton’s The Circus series, as a young girl. I so badly wanted to be able to speak to all the animals like Jimmy did in the books!
When did you start reading?
My parents often read me bedtime stories when I was young, and I remember them always falling asleep in the middle of a good story. If I wanted to know the ending, I had to learn how to finish reading it myself!
Where do you read?
I try and read whenever I get a spare moment. I can tune out background noise, so that’s handy for reading in public. Most often, I read snuggled up in bed.
What kind of books do you like to read?
I read across a variety of genres, but memoirs have a special spot in my heart. Especially if they’re about food and travel.
For you, why is it important to read books by or about women?
For a long time, the publishing industry has been dominated by male authors or the male gaze. Reading books written by or about women validates the experiences and voices of us that identify as women. We’re saying, “We exist.”
What types of books are you looking forward to sharing on Reading Women?
I hope to talk about books by authors from Australia and South East Asia, especially nonfiction titles that don’t get much exposure elsewhere in the world.
What most excites you about joining the RW team?
I can’t believe I’m getting the chance to talk about books with and learn from a team of awesome women with diverse reading tastes! My TBR shelf is ready.
